Great closing remark. I believe we have to show people we care as opposed to telling them. If we do that right then we become trusted.

Merrill,

Good article on what some perceive as a "mystery" system. With the required ventilation rates being increased by ASHRAE and Building Codes, energy usage and humidity control become a concern. We've been using Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) as an alternative to hot gas reheat with much sucess. The ERVs provide proper amounts of ventilation at a fraction of the energy usage of hot gas, all while controlling humidity levels. A simple yet impressive technology. Something to consider! Thanks for letting me interject.

It is a tremendous joy to not only know that an organization is very active like Independent Living Resources of Greater Birmingham, but what they represent speaks for itself.

It is wonderful that our organization truly believes in individuals with challenges living as independently as possible. That is something that I have firmly believed in since starting the journey long ago.

Talk about the "Heartbeat of America"...a place that supports, trains, researches, goes beyond the limits, encourages, builds up, and a whole lot more in regards to individuals with challenges who come in contact with Independent Living Resources of Greater Birmingham.

I have not worked with our organization for very long, but I am amazed with the individuals that I work with or observe.

I am really eager to see the final building that is in the making. I truly believe that it is going to be fantastic and will part of the continued process that will open up so many more doors for our consumers.

Aubrey,

You are ahead of the curve. Most of our current projects with architects that care and are invested are using Revit and get it for the client as well. Wins all the way around.

Our firm totally committed to Revit (BIM) 5 years ago and every project is Revit, beginning to end. I agree that it will become the norm. As a tool Revit allows the client to become part of the creative process. We conduct 2 day "LIVE design sessions" with the client in our creative suite the entire time and they all think it is better then "sliced bread". The design blends a clients DNA and our expertise to produce the exact design the client is seeking.

This design process eliminates the traditional "back & forth" during the initial design and creates an environment where our team and the client can come together and "get the design right" the first time, not after numerous meetings and months of time.

I’ve been working as a drafter in the Architectural field since the days of manual drawing. There was a time when I was outrun by technology. I don’t want that to happen again. Sometimes I commit one hour a day after work to new program tutorials. I’m presently learning Rivet. I know that I don’t want to be the out of work organ player.

Before I read the article I had the same thought as you. Without communication skills technical knowledge is worth less. It’s also important to have a good relationship with fellow workers. When conflicts arise it’s easier to find a resolution that satisfies both parties.

Wise words, Craig. We've found that "pulling"--getting to know our customers and tailoring communication to their style--works better than "pushing" for the long term.
